What Is War and Business?

War and Business is a blog dedicated to explaining proven military strategies and tactics and applying them to the world of business.

For thousands of years, militaries have refined systems to win in battle. Under the highest levels of competition—where human lives and the fate of nations are at stake—the cost of failing to adapt is extreme. This environment has produced some of the most effective leadership and execution frameworks ever developed.

Many of these concepts, however, have never been clearly translated for use in the civilian and business world. That is the mission of War and Business: to bring the best of military thinking into business leadership, execution, and decision-making.

Who Am I?

My name is Edward Beyne. I joined the United States Marine Corps in 2010 and became an infantry officer in 2011. I did a combat deployment to Musa Qala, Afghanistan, in 2012 with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, and later completed a non-combat deployment to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 2014.

After returning from Jordan, I transitioned to the Marine Corps Reserve, where I continue to serve while progressing in my career.

In 2016, I earned a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University. Since then, I have worked in both large and small companies, applying many of these principles in a business context.

Why create War and Business?

At its worst, this blog will develop my own understanding of these concepts and helps me apply them more effectively in my life and work. At its best, it becomes a platform for others to contribute, helping bring these ideas to a wider audience so the business world, especially in the United States, and can improve our ability to lead, execute, and succeed.
